Generator: Dispatches from Zarkany


Since THE DEVIL CITY & ITS 77 VICIOUS PRINCES is player-driven, and I love being lazy, I've come up with a number of generators for it. You can get at most of them on the game's carrd, but here's me experimenting whether I can just put them here for ease-of-posting. If this works well I'm hoping to stick more generators on here as we go.

This generator is for dispatches, the game's term for courtly intrigues. A dispatch is a momentous occurrence in the city—something  everyone has heard about. The generator includes:

  • How your princes hear about it
  • The event that occurred
  • Potential additional NPCs who were involved
  • A potential complication if things don't already seem thorny enough
  • Opening ideas--dispatches are meant to provide opportunities along with their seismic shift that PC princes can take advantage of.
Give it a go or two--you can hit the button on the bottom to generate another scandal.

Two princes in a vicious fight about where to order takeout You know the drill: new update, new notes, new effusive thanks for the interest. This one is mostly here to include a big ol' example of play. Check it out on the carrd!  Here's an incomplete list of changes in  Alpha Version 21: A new section, 24: Example of Play , walks you through part of a day of action at the table--it's more or less the cliffs notes version of a session I had just the other day. New art for Section 17! An overhaul to the SCHEMING section--same rules, just a different attempt to tackle the language. Translate this dungeon

I've been using the splendid MRMOTEXT lately alongside Playscii to make dungeons. The character set is supreme stuff for quickly making some beautiful dungeons, but it lacks letters in its character set. Any that I understand, at any rate. I invite you to take this map and use it in any way you see fit--it just needs a little bit of translation first. What you come up with is bound to be more interesting than anything I could have written. @ me on Twitter or on Discord (I'm in the usual stomping grounds there) with what you come up with!

VICIOUS PRINCES Alpha 20 is up!

Wow wow wow Alpha 20. What an arbitrary milestone. Head  to the carrd  to pick it up! As always, thanks for checking it out; please don't hesitate to DM me on twitter or find me on Discord if you have any feedback. Here's an incomplete list of changes in  Alpha Version 20: Wealth  has been rewritten to hopefully be a little clearer. 8.1  is where the majority of this effort went. An extra box in Section 16  and some additional text in section 13  to encourage trying the web out as a method of organization. A new rival, Keve Kornel,  with thoughts on running Great Lord rivals. Various itty bitty devils unleashed across the pages.
